Ian Taylor was born in Oakville, ON and started playing hockey in the MOHA organization in 1976. He skated with the Rangers until his junior year, when he was with the Oakville Blades (1987/88 season). Taylor graduated from White Oaks Secondary School, and attended Sheridan College where he played hockey with the Bruins from 1989-1992 (OCAA).

Taylor started his professional career in the 1992/93 season. He skated with the Daytona Beach Sun Devils until being traded to the Lakeland Ice Warriors. The teams are both minor professional hockey teams playing in the Sunshine Hockey League (1992-95). Taylor also played with the Ayr Raiders, a European Non-Elite hockey team based in Ayr, Scotland, a member of the British Hockey League (1989-1993).

Taylor has been involved with the Minor Oaks Hockey Association since the 1995/96 season. He has been a coach for both House League and Rep, and has been involved with MOHA Initiation and Town Rep Development programs. His son Brendan (1989) also played minor hockey with the Rangers, as well as skating in the OHL and professionally, before joining his dad as a coach with MOHA (2014/15). Taylor and Brendan also founded “innohockey” an innovative hockey tutoring program, where they are both Head Instructors.

Taylor is currently listed as the Head Coach for the Oakville Rangers Peewee AAA team for the upcoming 2015/16 season.
