Cody Goloubef  was born in Oakville, ON.  He played with the Toronto Marlboros from 2001 to 2005.The defenceman played with the Milton Icehawks Jr. A in 2005/06, where he was named the team’s rookie of the year after posting 42 points in 49 games and college recruiters began to take notice. Goloubef became one of the most sought-after players coming out of the OPJHL, with a number of schools courting him. The Sarnia Sting (OHL), who drafted him in 2005, were also in the mix.

The 2006/07 season saw Goloubef returning to Oakville to play with the Blades Jr. A team and he recorded 22 points in 19 games, even though he was injured for part of the season. He was also a member of Team Ontario in the U-17 Hockey Challenge in 2006 (one of three non-OHL players named to the roster).

Goloubef attended the University of Wisconsin in 2007. He scored 10 points the first year, his first goal being an overtime winner. The following year, in 36 games, he had 13 points. As a junior in 2009/10, Goloubef skated in 42 games, he racked up 14 points, and was part of a very talented lineup that include several top prospects (including Brendan Smith, Ryan McDonagh, Jake Gardiner, Justin Schultz and John Ramage). The team made it all the way to the National Championship game, losing to Boston College. In April 2010, Gouloubef was signed to a 3-year entry level contract. He was selected in the 2nd round, 37th overall.

Goloubef was part of Team Canada in the 2009 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships, winning a gold medal.

In his first pro season (2010/11), Goloubef skated in 50 of 80 games for the AHL Springfield Falcons. He had 17 points and was -12 with 42PMs. The team finished sixth and did not make the playoffs. Goloubef made his NHL debut in March 2012, skating in only one game with the Columbus Blue Jackets, after an injury-marred campaign that limited him to only 48 games with the Falcons.

The start of the 2012/13 season saw Goloubef missing time early due to a broken hand. He eventually played 38 games and scored 13 points. The Falcons finished first in the Northeast Division and reached the second round in the playoffs. Goloubef shuffled between Columbus and Springfield in the second half of the 2012/13 season. He scored his first NHL goal (only point to date) in February against San Jose. Goloubef signed a one-year contract with the Blue Jackets as a restricted free agent in July 2013. He has the potential to be a top-four defender if he can keep improving his all-around game.

From 2013 to 2015, Goloubef split his time playing between the Blue Jackets and the Falcons.
