Scott Wilson was born in Oakville, ON and played minor hockey with the Oakville Rangers. Bypassed in the OHL Priority Selection, Wilson started his Junior career skating with the Georgetown Raiders. All three years saw the team advancing to the playoffs.

It was after his second straight 60 point season with the Raiders that Wilson finally began to reap attention. He was named to Team Canada East in the World Junior A Challenge U-19 during the 2010/11 season.

Wilson enrolled in the University of Massachusetts, Lowell (UMass Lowell) in the fall of 2011 and played hockey with the River Hawks in the NCAA until graduation in 2014. Wilson had a stellar career while at UMass. In the 2011/12 season, he was NCAA (Hockey East) All-Rookie Team and Rookie of the Year. He was also NCAA (New England) Rookie of the Year. The team surprised everyone by finishing second in Hockey East and reaching the NCAA East Regional Finals. The following season, the team had their most successful season to date in school history. They won the Hockey East regular season title and won the Hockey East Championship game. The River Hawks made it to the “Frozen Four” for the first time, but lost in overtime in the semifinals. Wilson led the team in scoring and was named to the Hockey East All-Tournament team. An offer to turn pro was extended, but Wilson decided that another year at UMass would be beneficial to work on his all-around game and to get bigger.

In the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Wilson was drafted in round 7, 209th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins. He attended his first training camp with Pittsburgh before being assigned to AHL affiliate Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins at the start of the 2014/15 season. He was called up in December, but was forced to leave the game with a leg injury. In his first pro year, Wilson was on the top of two-way forwards for the AHL Penguins. He has the instincts and determination to be an effective middle line forward at the NHL level.
