Rep Hockey For Tyke (2011) Players
Submitted By Nathan McAnsh on Monday, April 23, 2018

As you may know, Hockey Canada has mandated players 8-years-old and under will participate in modified-ice games, which includes cross-ice or half-ice programming. The OMHA is proactively approaching this nation-wide initiative by implementing the Half-Ice Program to Tyke for the 2018-2019 season and will continue to roll out the mandate into Novice for the 2019-2020 season.

More information on this mandate and its implementation can be found on the OMHA Web Site. As a result of this mandate, the Tyke 1, Tyke 2, and Tyke 3 teams as they had previously run at full ice had to be eliminated for the 2018-2019 season and has left many parents wondering - where can our kids go for Rep hockey?

The Oakville Rangers believe in the development benefits of Cross-Ice and half ice Programming and are in full support of the OMHA and Hockey Canada's mandates. We do also acknowledge that there are varying levels of skill at these younger age groups and recognise that the players who are more advanced in their skills should have the opportunity to develop at the highest levels possible. With that in mind, the Oakville Rangers will allow for 2011 born players who played in IP Red or Pre-Tyke to try out for Novice Rep programming for the upcoming 2018-19 season.

The Oakville Rangers Hockey Club is also working on a Half-Ice, Rep-Style program for Tyke aged (2011 born) players. Details of that program along with tryout dates are still being worked on – stay tuned – there is more to come!!
