The Oakville Rangers Hockey Club is pleased to announce the second round of AAA coach selections for the 2019/20 season including Atom, Minor Peewee and Peewee! Novice and Minor Atom AAA to be announced soon.

At most age groups, we had multiple applicants including many new non-parent applicants which was great to see and affirmed that we are moving in the right direction.  Our final selections were the result of many inputs.  Panel interviews; application reviews; reference checks; season plan reviews; parent surveys; practice evaluations and team success were all criteria that the committee used in the selection process.  Congratulations to the successful applicants and thanks to all who applied.  It all starts with coaching!

Email: [email protected]     Phone: (289) 681-0809

Rob Hisey was born and raised in Oakville, playing minor hockey for the Oakville Rangers and in the GTHL. He went on to play 4 years in the OHL and signed with the New York Islanders. Rob played in many of the top leagues in Europe and North America. In 2017, he retired after a 12 year professional career.

Rob has been the Head On-Ice Skills Instructor at BTNL in Oakville over the past 3 years, working with some of the top players in the area from the OHL to the NHL. He also has been Head Coach for the Toronto Young Nationals Minor Atom AAA and the Streetsville Tigers Minor Atom AAA – both teams have been extremely successful.

Rob prides himself in teaching how to play and think the game. Hockey has been his passion his whole life – he’s been lucky enough call it his profession. Rob’s goal is to instill a passion and love for the game in the kids he coaches. At the same time, he hopes to teach good characteristics and habits that can translate into everyday life. Hockey gave Rob a lot and he has learned so much in the game - he hopes to pass that on to the kids he coaches.

Dominic DeRenzis - Minor Peewee AAA
Email: [email protected]     Phone: (289) 242-1942

Growing up, Dom was not allowed to play hockey as it was too expensive. He excelled at soccer, playing Jr A with 16-18 year old players when he was only 14 years old. Despite his success in soccer, Dom was, and still is, a huge hockey fan - having season tickets to Maple Leaf Gardens for ten years, and both his boys playing AAA hockey, continuing into the Jr. A level. Older son Mike has a successful hockey school, and younger son Ryan played with the Oakville Blades – a testament to Dom’s dedication to coaching.

Dom has over ten years’ experience coaching rep hockey at the AAA and AA level. He has CHIP and Development 1 in his NCCP certification. Dom is currently Head Coach with the Oakville Rangers Atom AAA team, as well as Assistant Coach with the Oakville Rangers Minor Midget AAA team. He also coaches rep roller hockey (ten plus years as well), winning three North American Championship titles and two Bronze medals.

Dom will once more be coaching roller hockey this upcoming spring, but ice hockey remains his true passion. After his boys “graduated” from the Oakville Rangers, Dom once more returned to coaching for the Oakville Rangers Hockey Club. Over the past four years, he has been involved with Minor Midget/Atom AAA, Minor Bantam AA and AAA teams, as well as Bantam AAA.

Dom focuses on both the mental and physical development of his players. He consistently teaches and focuses on each player’s individual skill. He makes sure players know every position, and the zone responsibilities involved. Dom teaches his players how to play without the puck, anticipating the next move. Mistakes are a learning experience – an opportunity to create “something out of nothing” rather than throwing pucks away.

Dom hopes to keep Oakville talent in Oakville, and attract other top talent to the organization. He hopes to win the OMHA’s and put his team in a great position to go to Quebec for their Peewee season.

Justin Pereira - Peewee AAA
Email: [email protected]     Phone: (905) 466-8991

As a graduate of the Oakville Rangers AAA system, Justin Pereira played an additional four seasons at the Junior A level. Since finishing hockey, he has dedicated himself to coaching. Graduating from Brock University with a Bachelors Degree in Physical Education, Justin completed his High Performance 1 Coaching Certificate (Hockey Canada) and obtained his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist Certification (NSCA-CSCS).

Justin’s passion for hockey has led him back to the game in multiple forms. He has spent the past three seasons coaching various age groups at the AAA level while also holding the Video Coach position for the University of Toronto Varsity Blues Men’s Hockey Program for the past two seasons.

In his coaching, Justin has always implemented a servant leadership approach where he strives to establish a relationship with each player based on trust and care. He prides himself in helping each player reach their full potential as a person and an athlete. Justin’s number one priority as a coach is to build an environment that helps players reach their team and individual goals.

Terry Richardson - Minor Bantam AAA
Email: [email protected]     Phone: (905) 407-3070

Terry Richardson played his AAA minor hockey in Brampton, as well as 3 years of Jr.A/Jr.B. His coaching career started with Caledon Minor Hockey in 1984. Terry then coached in the Canadian Women's program and the NWHL before moving back to minor hockey in the GTHL with AA and AAA teams. Terry began coaching junior hockey with Milton Ice Hawks, 3 years with Georgetown Raiders and in the 2017/18 season Terry was Head Coach of the Burlington Cougars in the OJHL. Following his 3rd year of junior hockey Terry joined the coaching staff of the ECHL team, Brampton Beast.

Terry holds his High Performance 1 certification, and is extremely excited to help develop the 2006 players both on and off the ice. Terry's teams have always been known to be the hardest working team on the ice, and when highly skilled players work hard the sky is the limit.

Gord Hynes - Bantam AAA
Email: [email protected]     Phone: (416) 464-7984

Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Bruins, and the Canadian National Team are just a few teams to name under Gord Hynes belt. Fifteen years as a professional hockey player includes NHL, Olympics, AHL, as well as 3 championships in Europe’s German Elite League have provided Gord with ample experience.

When Gord hung up his skates as a player, a 15 year coaching career began in Calgary, Alberta and continued to Burlington and Oakville. All that experience has built the mission statement “Form good habits, play hard, play smart, and play together”. Building confidence and character through not only individual skill, but also team skill to help them throughout their hockey career.

Gord is a High Performance Certified coach and has been coaching with the Oakville Rangers for the past 3 seasons.

Kevin Elkins - Minor Midget AAA
Email: [email protected]     Phone: (905) 330-7490

During 20+ years of being involved in coaching, Kevin has worked with many levels of hockey from Minor Peewee AAA to Junior A. His main focus has always been individual player development and to provide players with the tools and confidence necessary to continue to grow and reach their goals both on and off the ice.

Kevin’s passion and love for the game is instilled in his players as they come to the rink with the purpose of becoming a better hockey player. The 2019/20 hockey season will be an exciting year for Kevin and his coaching staff as they are all looking forward to the opportunity to lead the Oakville Minor Midget Rangers AAA team as the players enter their draft year. Having coached the Minor Midget level for several years, he can truly say the year is like no other. Kevin strongly feels he’ll be able to give this team the guidance and direction they need to be recognized as potential prospects for the OHL draft. “With player development, good team play, and creating a fun environment, we will work hard together to achieve our team goals along with each players individual goals”.

Most recently Kevin has been involved with the Burlington Eagles Rep program. He coached the Minor Peewee AAA team in the 2015 - 2016 season, was a Coach Mentor in 2016-2017, coached the Peewee AAA team in 2017-2018, and is currently coaching the Minor Bantam AAA Burlington Eagles.

Kevin has NCCP Certification Development 1 and RIS Activity Leader, he will be obtaining his HP1 early in 2019. Kevin intends to be 100% committed to the Minor Midget AAA team and run a program that the Oakville Ranger Hockey Club will be proud of.

Mike Bentivegna - Midget AAA
Email: [email protected]     Phone: (905) 483-6923

A skilled player on AAA teams, Mike Bentivegna started off with a keen sense of roles on the ice and equal opportunities for all players beyond the final buzzer.

Mike is a High Performance one certified coach and has coached the Midget AAA program for the last five seasons, competing at the OHMA Championships every year. Most of his players have moved on to the Jr. Level – a testament to the success of Mike and his coaching staff and the end goal of their program. His philosophy is to maintain a good discipline and respectful team to help players further themselves not just in hockey but life as well.
