The Ice Dogs fell short again.
The Ice Dogs have learned a hard lesson this season. Hard work doesn't always pay off right away. They are yet to learn the rest of the lesson. Hard work will pay off eventually. The Cooksville Tournament is coming this weekend, the Shomberg Tournament in February, and then the playoffs. This is the time we will see that work pay off.
The team is coming together. The boys feel they have improved since the beginning of the season. The boys pressure their opponents relentlessly. They are now one step away from success and they are aware of it. It is the lack of finish around the net that has been the undoing of this team. They lose close ones that shouldn't have been close in the first place, they tie games that should not have been ties.
The team is relentless around the opponents net with few goals to show for it. The team has worked on this at practice. Today's practice focused on looking prior to passing, shooting wrist shots with power, and backhands. These are all skills that every player needs to utilize around the net. It was really noticeable today that we have not put in enough time on the simple fundamentals of shooting. We are committed to fix this over the next month and this will become a priority with our players.
