Oakville Blizzard Take Home Silver at Bradford Blue & Gold Classic
The Oakville Blizzard [Minor Atom White] placed second in the Bradford Blue & Gold Classic Tournament in Bradford, January 24-26, 2014. The team secured second in the round robin ranking at the end of three games with only three goals scored against them over the three games including a shut-out for goalie Damien Rothgerber.
The team battled hard to beat the West London Hawks in the semi-final and went on to face the unbeaten Kitchener Rangers in Sunday's final. Tied 3-3 late in the third period, Kitchener scored with ~30 seconds remaining to pull ahead by one. The Blizzard pulled Rothgerber in hopes of getting back the goal and heading to overtime but the Rangers took advantage of the empty net and scored, making the final tally 5-3. Scoring from all three lines and outstanding defence combined with solid goaltending, allowed the team to secure the silver in their first tournament of the season.
