The Phantoms entered the game with 99 Goals For on the season. Every player wanted to be the one who netted that century marker. Even the goalie was trying to figure out an angle where he could get in on the action. It took an entire period for someone to step up but thanks to an extremely well executed break out play that began with Andrew making a hard pass from deep in his own zone to Aman, who feathered it out of the zone to the stick of Jase who then flew down the ice to beat the goaltender, the 100th goal of the Phantom's season was scored. It was too bad, however, the goal was officially recorded as unassisted.
The Phantoms took their traditional 1st period to get going and it was a tight defensive battle until deep in the second period when the Phantoms seemed to get their legs and struck for the second time in the game. The Phantoms began to open it up in the third and continued to apply pressure the rest of the game.
The Phantoms had a couple of defensive lapses which included one beautiful shot that was allowed to be taken from inside the slot. This shot went off the inside of the crossbar and in. No chance for the goalie on that one. The other scoring opportunity that was surrendered was another shot from the high slot which hit the post and bounced right under the goalie who was able to hold it for a whistle. Close call.
The boys understand the multiple levels of significance of the final game of the regular season next weekend. The boys are truly pumped and regardless of all the levels of significance surrounding this game, ultimately, the Phantoms simply want to go into the playoffs on a high note.
