What a weekend for the Oakville Bandits at the Bradford Blue & Gold Tournament this past weekend
The Bandits blasted onto the Tyke Tournament stage this past weekend.
Not only was this the first tournament for the team, but the first tournament for more than half of the Bandit players ever and boy did they step up.
From the moment they stepped into the rink Friday morning against the Willowdale Blackhawks MD, the boys were on fire. Scoring first and continuing to challenge the Blackhawks until the final buzzer, the boys took their first game 8-2. Following quickly against the Peterborough Pete's who were no slouch, the Bandits played in true Oakville style. They fought for the puck, played clean, never hung back, and came together as a team to sail to a 5-0 win.
The boys were on fire. Saturday night Team White Lightening (aka Team Mangaroo) proved to be the stiffest competition. There was a battle back and forth for the entire 3 periods with only 1 ref casualty! The boys drew 1-1, but had enough points to advance to the finals Sunday morning.
For a little house league team to make it to the finals against a certified rep team was completely unexpected! The boys came out well rested and ready to play. For almost 2 and a half periods the Bandits had the Port Perry Preditors on their heels. The Bandits had taken more goals in the first 2 periods than the Preditors have given up the entire tournament. Unfortunately the pace of play was too much and the Bandits conceded a hard fought loss 6-2 to the Preditors in the dying 5 minutes of the last period.
What an unbelievable finish to their first tournament.
