Good Times!
Another exciting
game and an even better result. The boys
followed a so-so performance on Wednesday with one of the best of the year
today. The Wolverines are definitely trending
in the right direction. Even though last
week was not their best game, it was far from their worst. Today, the boys put it all together extending
their unbeaten streak to five games. Great
effort boys!
The coaches saw many eyeballs today rather than tops of helmets, head manning passes, almost every opponent covered in front the Wolverines net, and the Wolverines hemming the opponents in their own end for minutes at a time. The boys did not panic and made smart, efficient plays. Once again, They received great goaltending. All the things the Wolverines have been working on this season came to fruition this game. They actually scored a third goal which was disallowed, but AJ said no one touched the goalie and he went down on his own so the goal should have counted. That’s good enough for me. To top it all off, the Wolverines spent most of the final few minutes in the offensive zone.
The boys seem to be gaining confidence in the plan, their team mates, and themselves. They are very comfortable with their positions and the responsibilities. They are less inclined to try the end to end individual rushes, but rather, are more inclined to find the open man and attack as a unit. They are simplifying the game and learning that sometimes less is more and doing your own job well is more important than doing everyone else’s job. The next step is to work on getting many more pucks in front of the net.
The next opponent is the same opponent as today. The coaches hope the boys are ready because the opposition will be!
