ORHC AAA Coach Selection Announcement

The Oakville Rangers Hockey Club (ORHC) is pleased and excited to announce these U13 to U10 AAA coaching selections for the 2023/24 season. These selections will support continued growth in the ORHC's collective bench strength that was established several years ago when the organization made a commitment to find and select the highest quality coaches. Since then, this focus on coach selection has been a key element of our improving development system which has led to a consistent improvement of our players and teams overall.

We believe that this announcement reflects another extremely strong coaching group who are the foundation, along with the support of our deep organizational resources, to continuing to build a "Best in Class AAA Hockey Program". Congratulations to the successful applicants and thanks to all those who applied. It all starts with coaching.

Mat Hannah

Phone: (905) 465-5090

Mat Hannah grew up being an Oakville Ranger and is excited about working with new Ranger players and families. As well as playing many years in the ORHC, Mat spent time in the GTHL. Upon finishing his minor hockey career and obtaining a Kinesiology degree at Brock University in 2011, Mat switched his focus to player development and coaching.

For the past 10 years, Mat has been involved in player development and coaching. He began as a lead instructor at Cutting Edge and then moved over to Oakville Hockey Academy under the mentorship of former NHL player, Jamie Allison. In the past 5 years, Mat has expanded his Oakville development influence through his CORE hockey company in collaboration with many Rangers from House League to AAA teams.

Mat continues to progress by being current in new ways of thinking the game. Through his active involvement with the Belfry Skills Coach Network and collaborating with coaching mentor Ron Johnson, Elite Hockey Science, and participating in national seminars, podcasts and global conferences, Mat continues to be at the forefront of player development. When he is not coaching, you can often find Mat learning more by watching at the rink, speaking with parents and coaches while watching practices and games of other age levels and abilities.

Mat has gained experience serving as a coach to Oakville Rangers AAA, Mississauga Rebels, OHF U15 Program of Excellence and team consultant to many other organizations throughout OMHA/GTHL.

His coaching philosophy is maximum fun and maximum development. Mat wants to provide a hockey environment in which players are motivated to excel through a growth mindset of embracing the process of learning through work, fun and communication.

Congratulations to Mat on his selection as Head Coach of the Oakville Rangers U12 AAA team for the 2023/24 season.

Mike Archibald

Email: [email protected]
Phone: (647) 402 - 5035

Mike Archibald was born in Waterloo and played his entire minor hockey years for the Waterloo AAA hockey teams, serving as captain of several teams during those seasons. Upon completing minor hockey in the late 90’s, he switched his focus to coaching and served as an assistant coach to several Waterloo AAA hockey teams.

Mike has been a coach in Oakville for the past 5 years and has worked with most of the 2013 aged kids throughout the program. His coaching philosophy begins with the core fundamentals of the game – skating, passing, shooting, puck possession and aggressiveness – and has now shifted to include positional awareness and tactics as the kids hockey intelligence has grown.

Mike tries to instill hard work and discipline in all the ice times he runs and looks to translate those on-ice hockey skills into everyday life for all his players. He is an avid hockey fan and can often be found at the rink watching games and practices to help improve his techniques and approach to coaching. Mike coached the U9 AAA team in 2021-2022 and the U10 AAA team in 2022-2023 and is excited to be continuing with the Oakville Rangers organization as a coach, and to further teach and grow the next generation of players.

Congratulations to Mike on his selection as Head Coach of the Oakville Rangers U11 AAA team for the 2023/24 season.
