ORHC Announces Retired NHL Player Patrick O'Sullivan as their new Rep Hockey Development Consultant
Submitted By Nathan McAnsh on Thursday, October 17, 2019
As part of our ongoing efforts to get great hockey people involved, the Oakville Rangers Hockey Club is excited to announce that Patrick O’Sullivan has joined us to head up a new pilot program.

While what Patrick has done on the ice is impressive (1st overall OHL draft pick; OHL, CHL, AHL Rookie of the Year; 8 years in the NHL; part of Hockey USA Development program; IIHF U18 Champion; IIHF World Junior Champion), it is what he has done since his retirement from the NHL that will provide the most value to our coaches, players and teams.

Patrick has worked as a radio and TV analyst for TSN; he is a paid consultant for NHL teams; he works with several current NHL players and he is a best-selling author and in-demand speaker on how to improve minor hockey.

Those combined experiences allow him to quickly assess players, coaches and teams and figure out how to make them better. Patrick will be working to support the development goals that Jaan Luik (VP AAA) and Jay Prentice (VP AA-MD) have set forth for the club. Specifically, the role will involve:

· Working closely with VPs of AAA and AA-AE to implement, support and monitor player and coach development objectives including attendance at team practices and games.

· Consulting with VPs and Rep coaches to help build and enhance seasonal planning components including on-ice curriculum with focus on leading edge technical skills, tactics and strategy.

· Providing player evaluation and strategic game play resources for coaches (to observe games, evaluate players and offer competitive tactical alternatives).

· Delivering Player Pathway presentations to offer guidance to parents as well as insights into post-minor hockey progression.

· Being an on-ice technical resource for coaches: providing the opportunity for coaches to supplement on-ice development program with attendance at practices.

· Assisting Minor Midget and Midget AAA coaches with player retention and recruiting as well as promotion/advancement to higher level hockey (Jr. A, OHL, college).

· Helping to build the Oakville Rangers Hockey Club brand, particularly at the AAA level to support player retention and recruitment.

You will definitely see Patrick around the rinks so walk up and say ‘hi’. If you are a coach, parent or player and you want to reach out to Patrick with questions or have him work with your team, just email him at [email protected] and be sure to copy your VP of Rep (Jaan Luik [email protected] for AAA and Jay Prentice [email protected] for all other Rep teams).

Welcome to the team Patrick. Go Rangers Go!
