Oakville Rangers Announce 2020-2021 AAA Coach Selections!
Submitted By Cassy Goulart on Friday, December 20, 2019
The Oakville Rangers Hockey Club (ORHC) is pleased and excited to announce these AAA coaching selections for the 2020-2021 season.

These selections have built upon the momentum first established beginning in the 2017-18 season when the ORHC embarked on a journey of becoming a "Best in Class AAA Hockey Program". The key foundation component to achieving this was a commitment to find and select the highest quality coaches possible for our players.

Since then this focus on coach selection has continued and has strongly supported the growing effectiveness of our development system, leading to a consistent improvement of our players and teams overall. This season most of our teams sit at or near the top of the SCTA standings and all teams have shown an improvement in competitiveness and Provincial rankings.

We believe that this announcement reflects another extremely strong coaching group who will, with the support of our deep organizational resources and emphasis on seasonal planning and curriculum, contribute to our vision of becoming a "Best in Class AAA Hockey Program".

Congratulations to the successful applicants and thanks to all those who applied. It all starts with coaching.

During that same time, he played in 3 World Junior Hockey Championships with the USA winning a gold medal in 2004. Patrick is the all-time leader in games played for the USA at the World Junior tournament.

In 2003 Patrick was selected in the 2nd round of the NHL draft by the Minnesota Wild. He then played in the NHL for 8 years with the LA Kings, Edmonton Oilers and Arizona Coyotes. Patrick played in the Men’s World Championships for the USA 3 times while playing in the NHL and representing his country at every level was a career highlight. Patrick finished playing his professional career in Helsinki Finland for HIFK in the SM Liiga.

As a coach Patrick is looking forward to sharing his knowledge of the game and teaching kids about what you can learn from the greatest sport in the world that applies to real life. Patrick works with current NHL and AHL players in the summer on skill development. He is excited to get started coaching with the Oakville Rangers.

Congratulations to Patrick on his selection as Head Coach of the Oakville Rangers Under-10 (U10) AAA team for the 2020-21 season.

The team had incredible success, finishing second in the OHL Cup, second in the OHF’s and winning countless tournaments and OMHA championships. From Peewee to Bantam the team was undefeated in league play. Rob played in many of the top leagues in Europe and North America. In 2017, he retired after a 12-year professional career.

Dominic DeRenzis – Under-13 (U13) / currently known as Peewee

Email: [email protected]   Phone: (289) 242-1942

Dom has over ten years experience coaching rep hockey at the AAA level, most recently winning the Silver Medal at the OMHA’s with this 2008 AAA group last season. This season they are off to another great start with the hopes of improving on last year’s success. Dom is also a true believer that the sport of roller hockey is great for improving your skill-set, and he has won 3 Gold Medals and 2 Bronze Medals at the top level of the North American Roller Championships.

On top of coaching through the Novice to Minor Midget journey multiple times, Dom has also been a parent involved in this process a couple times. Both of Dom’s sons have gone through minor hockey at the AAA level, both advancing to the Jr. A level, allowing Dom to understand the process of minor hockey from both a coach and parent point of view. This combination of experience makes him a non-parent coach who can supply both the players and the parents with the proper education and information that is necessary for development through the minor hockey journey.

Being through this process many times before, Dom understands the importance of the Long-Term Development Plan of each player and makes this an important focus with his coaching philosophy. Constantly correcting and teaching players how to think the game, Dom stresses the importance of “trying” to make the right play, reinforcing that mistakes will happen, but the importance for their long-term development is that players learn to recognize and understand what the right play to make is in different scenarios in all 3 zones.

To go hand-in-hand with teaching the game, Dom has also built a Coaching Staff of qualified, experienced, young men in their 20’s to early 30’s, who compliment his abilities and relate well with the younger players to help teach skill development.

The current owner of a hockey school for 10 years now, 2 former CIS hockey players who have also worked with hockey schools, a head instructor of a hockey school, and the current GM of the Oakville Blades Jr.A team, make up the members of Dom’s coaching staff to assist with developing with these young players into smarter and more skilled hockey players on the ice, and responsible, mature, and respectful kids off the ice.

Congratulations to Dominic on his selection as Head Coach of the Oakville Rangers Under-13 (U13) AAA team for the 2020-21 season.

Justin Pereira – Under-14 (U14) / currently known as Minor Bantam

Email: [email protected]   Phone: (905) 466-8991

As a graduate of the Oakville Rangers AAA system, Justin Pereira played an additional four seasons at the Junior A level. Since finishing hockey, he has dedicated himself to coaching. Graduating from Brock University with a Bachelors Degree in Physical Education, Justin completed his High Performance 1 Coaching Certificate (Hockey Canada) and obtained his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist Certification (NSCA-CSCS).

Justin’s passion for hockey has led him back to the game in multiple forms. He has spent the past several seasons coaching various age groups at the AAA level while also holding the Video Coach position for the University of Toronto Varsity Blues Men’s Hockey Program and most recently as the Head Coach of the Oakville Rangers Peewee AAA team.

In his coaching, Justin has always implemented a servant leadership approach where he strives to establish a relationship with each player based on trust and care. He prides himself in helping each player reach their full potential as a person and an athlete. Justin’s number one priority as a coach is to build an environment that helps players reach their team and individual goals.

Congratulations to Justin on his selection as Head Coach of the Oakville Rangers Under-14 (U14) AAA team for the 2020-21 season.

Congratulations to Terry on his selection as Head Coach of the Oakville Rangers Under-15 (U15) AAA team for the 2020-21 season. This will be Terry's third season with this team.
