This page provides general information on Accelerate Program for beginner-level players.
The Accelerate Program is new for the 2022/23 season and is geared towards older beginner-level players who are interested in learning the fundamentals of hockey in a controlled and friendly environment. Hockey is meant to be for everyone and anyone, this program is specifically designed for those "late-starters" to ensure that they have the opportunity to play this amazing sport.
This is a 20-week Program for players in U10, U11, U12, U13, U14 and U15. Players will go through a Development Phase, where they are on-ice 2x per week learning the fundamentals of hockey from our Professional Development Team. After the Development Phase, the players transition to a condensed Regular Season where they will have 1 game and 1 practice per week. The program concludes with a Tournament-style Playoffs.
With players in the Accelerate Program being relatively brand new to hockey, we felt it was important to include professional development. During this phase, the players are on-ice 2x per week with our Professional Development Team. It is here they will learn and practice fundamental hockey skills:
- Skating (Forwards, backwards, stops/starts, edges, etc.)
- Passing (Standing still and in motion)
- And more!
The objective of the Development Phase is to improve players hockey skills and prepare them for gameplay. It is important that players in the Accelerate Program learn these skills so that during gameplay, they are able to be full participants and not be hindered by lack of development/training time.
After the Development Phase, players will transition into the Regular Season. At this point, teams will be formed and a schedule will be created. Players will still be on-ice 2x per week, however now they will have one (1) game per week and one (1) practice per week.
The final week of the program will feature a tournament-style playoffs to conclude the season. Teams will gather on a specific day to play playoff games. At the end of the games, awards will be given out to all players as a thank-you for their participation in the program.
Volunteers are the lifeblood and backbone of the Oakville Rangers. We are always looking for people to help out on the bench, during practice, as a Manager or Game Day Staff, and more! You can help an hour or two a week, or you can really dive in and pick up some of the heavy lifting – it’s up to you! And you don’t have to be a "hockey person" to help – there are roles that need some hockey knowledge, of course, but there are administrative and managerial roles as well. If you are interested in volunteering, thank you!!
