Both teams entered this game with only one win on the season. Due to having less tie games, the Vipers were hopeful of picking up the two points in order to bring them into a tie in the standings with the Black Beards.
Midway through the opening period, Marcus DeMaria scored on a backhand shot during a goal-mouth scramble, giving the Vipers an early lead.
In the second Andrew Melamed, playing one of his better games in a while, scored to draw even; but with two seconds remaining J.D. Shoniker made a nice pass to line-mate Lucas Bruce to restore the one goal margin.
There was no scoring in the third period.
The Beards coaching staff was looking for an opportunity to pull their goalie late in the game in an attempt to tie things up with a goal, but they were not able to get deep into the Vipers end until there were only four seconds left on the clock.
