The Black Beards, buoyed by their first victory of the season on Saturday, we're in tough for this match against the Red Bulls, winners of three games and undefeated on the season.
The Red Bulls were without head coach Eric Lawson, so the other members of the bench staff pulled together to guide their charges.
Things started out poorly for those in black, with Alexander Lawson potting two goals during the first shift of the game, lifting the Red Bulls into a 2-0 lead before the game was even two minutes old.
The teams traded goals in the second period, with Talon Mitchelson scoring for the Beards and Lucas Marley restoring the two goal margin for the Bulls when he was left alone in front of the net and was able to bounce a shot off the goalie's shoulder into the net.
Early in the third Elijah Wilson scored to give the red team a three goal lead. The play was mostly in the Black Beards end during the third, but eventually the ice tilted, and the Red Bulls were feeling the pressure late in the game.
First Connor Southworth scored, then shortly after Adrian Calleja banged in a rebound and the Bulls were back on their heels, desperately clinging to what was now feeling like a tenuous one goal margin.
The Black Beards stormed their opponent's net in the final minute, with a couple of glorious opportunities to tie the game, but goalkeeper Tyler Jones held them off, and the Bulls escaped with the 4-3 victory to remain undefeated on the season.
