Just before this game began, it was announced that the Black Beards goalie would be absent due to a family emergency. The Vipers goal-keeper Oscar St. James-Kush agreed to play in a second straight game as an emergency replacement.
The Black Beards scored the only goal of the first period, when Andrew Melamed's shot went wide, but the rebound went off the back boards and right to line-mate Talon Mitchelson, who flipped the puck into the open side of the net.
The black shirts scored again early in the second stanza, to open up a rare two goal lead. This time it was Adrian Calleja scoring.
Midway through the period Alec Tang showed some good persistence after the puck hit the post and dug the puck out from under the Beards goalie and popped it in to get his team back in the game.
In a wild third period, the Black Beards saw their 2-0 lead evaporate and turn into a one goal margin the other way when Michael Leonard and Evan Romano scored for the Grey Wolves.
The Wolves lead was short-lived though, with the Black Beards regaining the lead on goals from Mitchelson and Evan Lepera, the last coming with just 1:45 to play in the game.
The grey shirts pulled their goalie with forty-eight seconds to play, but a promising rush was thwarted when they went off-side with twenty-six seconds to play.
The Wolves did not give up however, and with just eight seconds to play, Sasha Hanson was the hero, scoring only his second goal all year to tie the game at four.
This game, although a draw, felt like a loss to the Black Beards supporters, but was a good example of the type of season they've had in 2013-2014.
