The Black Beards entered this game with a lineup bolstered by two new players, still looking for their first win on the season.
When the Vipers J.D. Shoniker scored on the first shift, many supporters of the Beards thought, "Here we go again."
The black sweaters did not cave, but fought back with goals from Adrian Calleja and newly acquired Andrew Melamed to take a 2-1 lead into the second period.
In the second Melamed scored again, making a couple of nice stickhandling moves to get around Viper defensemen, before showing off his good shot.
In the last minute of the middle stanza, a long shot from Matthew Nazaruk somehow went through a maze of skates and sticks, including past the goalie to draw the yellow shirts within one.
In the third the Black Beards got an insurance goal from Scott Cestnick and skated off with a 4-2 victory, despite a nice rush from the Vipers Lucas Bruce with three minutes remaining that just missed.
Next up for the Beards? A tough test against the undefeated Red Bulls on Monday night at Kinoak arena.
