Early in this one Max Holmes just missed on a breakaway attempt and as often happens, the play went down to the other end where Vipers Marcus DeMaria scored.
The Vipers were victims of bad luck later in the period when the puck got tangled up in their defenseman's skates and Christian Caputi was able to dig it out and fire it home past a surprised Oscar St. James-Kush.
The Leafs got the lone goal in the second stanza, with Henry Barber converting a lovely pass from Nicholas Riviglia to make the score 2-1.
It was a good game, with the Leafs having their chances but St. James-Kush keeping his team in it. Until...
Barber broke in alone and scored his second of the game, and two minutes later Luke Spano shot out front from behind the net, hitting the goalie as the puck went in for a three goal margin for the blue shirts.
Tyler Davis made a noteworthy defensive play, skating quickly back to break up a Leafs scoring chance after his team-mate fell down on the play.
The Vipers scored in a goal-mouth scramble with just over a minute remaining, with Davis getting credit, but it was too little, too late.
The final score was 4-2 for the Leafs, vaulting them back into first place.
