The Red Bulls entered this game in first place, with the Blizzard in third, but in fact both teams had five wins on the season, and only one point separated them in the standings. Fitting then, that in the first period, the teams skated to a scoreless draw.
The white sweaters scored the only two goals of the second period, but the tallies from Andrew Palucci and Adam Baldelli sandwiched a good scoring chance from the Bulls Devon Kinnaird that Damien Rothgerber made a good save on.
A goal early in the final frame from Evan Hughes opened up a 3-0 lead. Robert Szalay skated end to end through the whole Blizzard team shortly after that insurance goal, but again Rothgerber came up with the breakaway stop.
With four minutes remaining Spencer Osborn scored to spoil the shutout bid, but persistence at the side of the net allowed Palucci to score his second of the game and seal the victory, a 4-1 final.
