Notes
For a team named after a snake, the Vipers seem to be the ones being bit so far this season.
They skated stride for stride with the Red Bulls and fell 3-2 after one brief letdown, and Friday night? Well, let's see...
The Blizzard got on the board first, when Adam Baldelli skated right in on net and lifted a nice wrist shot past the goalie.
The Vipers line of Matthew Nazaruk, Thomas Baker and Jacob Kesela had sustained pressure late in the opening frame and were rewarded for their hard work when Nazaruk scored with four minutes left to tie things up. As time wound down in the period Andrew Palucci made a nice move to beat the Vipers goalie, but shot wide.
In the second, the Vipers defenseman slid and ended up knocking the puck into his own net. Ryan Schooley was given credit.
The Vipers Lucas Bruce was able to get that one back when the Blizzard goalie was unable to cover the loose puck in the crease. Bruce got his second of the game when the Blizzard goalie slid back into his net, bringing the puck with him over the goal line, putting Vipers up 3-2 entering the final period.
In the third the Blizzard took control. Daniel Tremblay scored the tying goal when the Vipers goalie was caught out of position, and on the next shift Palucci took his time, waited for the goalie to commit and made a nice move to put his team in front.
The final seconds were exciting with Vipers all around the Blizzard goal trying to even things up. Those with a closer look than this observer say the puck lay loose in the crease with 10 seconds left, but somehow the snake-bit Vipers were unable to bang it in to tie the game.
Final score 4-3 for the Blizzard.
