Notes
The Vipers, although missing their top scorer, were hoping to win two games in a row for the first time this season. Their opponents the Red Bulls were hoping to avoid losing their third in a row and falling out of the race for first place in the division.
The best chances of the scoreless opening period came when Robert Szalay's hard wrist shot was caught by Vipers goalie Oscar St. James-Kush. Seconds later St.James-Kush needed to make a quick left pad save on Spencer Osborn.
In the second the Vipers J.D. Shoniker found himself alone with the puck in front of the Red Bulls net and slowly, but surely took aim and scored.
The Vipers took a two goal lead on the next shift, with a marker from Nolan Grierson, his first of the season, pleasing their anxious (and vocal) fans.
Before the period ended, the Bulls Alexander Lawson picked up the loose puck after a shot-block by the Vipers defenseman and scored to pull his team within one entering the final frame.
Early in the third Grierson made a nice pass on a two on one to line-mate Tyler Davis to restore the Vipers two goal margin; but just eight seconds later Lucas Marley quieted the fans of those in the yellow jerseys with a goal for the Bulls.
With three and a half minutes to play the Bulls William Kasslack scored to bring his team back within one, setting up the longest four minutes of Vipers Coach Frank De Maria's season. Could they hang on for victory number three?
Alas, the players in the red sweaters were just too strong on this day; and with two minutes to play were able to tie it up on a goal from Mark Liabotis.
St. James-Kush played well, as did the Vipers Grierson, who finished with three points in the 4-4 draw.
