The Black Beards have been an improved team of late, but still can't seem to get over the hump and get that second victory of the season. The Grey Wolves lead the league in goals scored, so the Beards would have their work cut out for them.
Both teams scored twice in the first period.
Alec Tang had to corral a rolling puck on a breakaway, but he eventually did and fired a strong wrist shot high glove side (his favourite target area) for his league leading 13th goal to open the scoring.
Less than a minute later Talon Mitchelson answered with a hard wrist shot of his own to tie the score. The Black Beards went in front on a goal from Connor Southworth, but the Wolves tied it up again on a goal from Rick Schwarzkopf.
Tang got the only goal in the second, and completed the hat trick early in the third to give the grey shirts a two goal lead.
The Beards kept working though. At the end of a good, hard-working shift from Evan Lepera, Scott Cestnik and Sebastian McClay, Lepera scored.
As the clock wound down, Beards fans were thinking, "Here we go again, another loss" when with just seconds remaining the puck rolled to the side boards to the right of the Wolves goal keeper. Vaugn Spence jumped on it and in desperation fired it out front. Improbably Mitchelson got a weak shot away, that oh, so slowly, trickled over the goal line to tie the game at four with two seconds remaining.
