A 3-0 win over the Penguins with Rusak shutting them out!
Simonot put us on the scoreboard twice during the first period with Rasquin and Sparling assisting the first and Ribeirio and Blake helping out on the second.
A pesky Penguin pulled down Jedryk on a breakaway in the second period. A penalty shot ensued but “no joy.”
Three minutes into the third Jedryk tried to redeem his chance with another breakaway coupled with a different manoeuvre, but still “no joy.” But he sure gave it a valiant effort.
Rasquin, with some nifty stick handling after Morris and Sykes moved it along, solidified our lead on an empty net with 53 seconds remaining.
The Penguin’s goalie gave up lots of rebounds so we could have capitalized on those. It’s not good to be greedy, but it’s something to think about next time. Rusak on the other hand received a well-deserved shut out.
The trend in the dressing room before game time is to see who the last player is to get dressed. One player, who I won’t mention but he does share my last name, would have realized he forgot his helmet much sooner had he been dressed. (I also noticed a Penguin player forgot his skates). This would have saved the assistant coach from rushing home as the entire first period transpired. It would have also saved him from falling on black ice in the driveway. Maybe we can suit up a little sooner?
But it all worked out. Great game Jets!
