Jets Played Their Hearts Out.
Even though the Jets succumbed to the Amherstburg Stars in the semi-finals they should be commended for their four game valiant effort!

(In case you are wondering, Amherstburg is small town on the Canadian side of the Detroit river). Yes, I had to Google it.

With only two forward lines and five “D” the Jets persevered with some of our strong skaters absent.

With just 52 seconds left in the first, Blake implied enough is enough by scoring with Ribeiro and McCoy getting credit with assists.

At first the refs were calling penalty after penalty against the Jets. It seemed if we looked at them, they were calling us. But the Amherst Stars proved to be no glittering angels. They prodded and chirped the entire game. We had two “five on threes” but karma was not with us. At 5:10 left in the third the score became 1-1.

Just as the game buzzer rang a Jet’s defenceman laid out a solid check with the referee calling it an unjustly head contact. We started sudden death overtime with a one player deficit and within a couple of minutes the game ended. But what a game!

Even though Team Canada proved to be a disappointment Team Oakville Jets did us proud!

Nicholas Jedryk got a well deserved MVP award and rightly so. What a tournament for him.

But one guy that kept the Jets in every game was Mattew Rusak. Not once in four games was his talent queried. His solid performance allowed the Jets to soar!

Good times were also had by the parents. Trainer Bruce’s “special concoction” sure had many of the parents smiling during après hockey.

And lastly, team manager Lenka, sure kept things running smoothly along with the coaching staff.

We will see everyone tomorrow night.
