Spirited Effort
With players trying new positions today, the game was a bit messy at times but the Phantoms are a determined bunch.

In order to build a true team, it's important for all players to have a sound understanding of all the positions and the responsibilities associated with them.  This allows the players to understand what is expected of themselves as well as their team mates.  Without that understanding they could fall into the trap of trying to do someone else's job at the expense of their own.  Learning other positions and how they interact ensures they stay within their mandate and they learn to trust their team mates.  Once this happens, a true team is tough to beat.

Today was the first step in seeing the ice from a different perspective.  Most of the boys played new positions and, although it was messy at times, their determination allowed them to be successful.  They can now begin to understand what happens when a team mate does or doesn't perform his role properly and how it affects other line mates.  This will be an on going exercise as the season progresses and although it was "nail biting", as one parent described, it will be worth it in the end as the team comes together.
