Rangers Give Back
Players from the Oakville Rangers U18 AA Red team partnered with IKEA
Burlington to generate proceeds from the sale of Christmas Trees for Big
Brothers Big Sisters of Halton and Hamilton.
Organized and managed by Team Parent, Laurie Willmott, the players spent six hours greeting customers at the outdoor Tree lot, assisting customers in choosing trees, helping to transport trees to vehicles and keeping the Tree lot clean and tidy. A portion of the proceeds from each tree sold, and full proceeds from tree bag sales were donated back to Big Brothers Big Sisters.
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, PPE and hand sanitizer was provided/required and only members of the Rangers team “bubble” were on location. The volunteer event was a major success at every level. It raised much needed funds for a worthy charity, provided the players with a fun opportunity to give back to their community and assisted families in the acquisition of a Christmas tree at a great price! Last year over $20,000 was raised with this initiative and this year promises to be even more successful.
