Do I need a Permission To Skate? Do I need a Release? Or a Waiver?
This is a very common question at Tryout time but one that, unfortunately, does not usually have a simple answer. Determining whether you require any additional paperwork for your tryout can be complicated. On this page we list out the information you'll need as clearly and concisely as we can, but it is almost impossible to cover every possible scenario. As an Oakville Resident, the first thing you have to understand is that you reside within the Lake Ontario Region (LOR). As a resident within the LOR you are governed by the LOR Regulations.

Lake Ontario Region (LOR)

What is the LOR Lake Ontario Region?
LOR stands for Lake Ontario Region. The LOR encompasses the whole of the GTHL (Toronto, Markham, Mississauga, and Vaughan) and the OMHA Associations/Centres (Oakville, Brampton, Richmond Hill, Markham, Ajax and Pickering). It has been in existence since the 1997-1998 season, to address the unique geographical area in and around the Greater Toronto Area. If you live within the LOR you are governed by the LOR Regulations. More information about these rules and regulations can be found at http://www.ohf.on.ca/view/ohfmainsite/player-movement/lake-ontario-region.

A note regarding Residency
Residency refers to the Players primary residence at the time of the Tryout. For example, let's say you currently live in Mississauga. You've purchased a new home and you know you are moving to Oakville, so you want to try out for an Oakville team. At the time of the Tryout you are still a Mississauga resident and have to approach the try out as a Non-Resident - you will need either a Permission to Skate or a Release from Mississauga before you attend the Tryout in Oakville. As a rule of thumb - if you are trying out in Oakville because you are moving to Oakville but you do not reside in Oakville as of yet please speak to Cheryle Hinder ([email protected]) prior to registering for the Tryouts.

Junior Player Tryout Permission Form (Jr PTS)
The ORHC can only issue Junior Player Tryout Permission Forms, also know as a Junior PTS, to LOR Residents. If you played on an Oakville Rangers AAA team last season on an F1 Waiver and require a Jr PTS for the upcoming season you will need to request it from your Home Center. he ORHC will issue Jr PTS Forms for Oakville Residents and LOR Resdients that played on an ORHC AAA Team last season.

OHF AAA F1 Waivers

  • You reside within the LOR
  • You want to try out for a AAA Team outside of the LOR

If you meet the criteria listed above you will require an F1 Waiver before you attend the Tryout. As per Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) Rules and Regulations no Association is permitted to provide Waivers until the completion of the OHF Championships.

If you are trying out for a U14 (formerly Minor Bantam) or older AAA Team
To request an F1 Waiver, please email Melissa Wolk ([email protected]) with the all of the following information:

  • Player’s Full Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Home Address
  • Phone Number
  • What team did they play for last season?
  • Which team are they trying out for?
  • Are they a Goalie or a Skater?

F1 Waiver Requests for Players in U14 and older will only be accepted via email

Please allow 48 hours for completion. Requests received with incomplete information will take longer. Once approved, you will be contacted via email to make an appointment to pick up the Waiver at the ORHC Office. Both the player and a parent must be present to sign the waiver when you come to pick it up.

If you are trying out for a U13 or younger AAA Team
As per the OHF LOR Regulations, to be eligible for an F1 Waiver you first must try out for and be released from the Oakville Rangers AAA team in the age group you are requesting the Waiver for. If you are offered a spot on the Oakville Rangers AAA team in your requested age group you will not be eligible for an F1 Waiver. To request an F1 Waiver:

  1. Register for and attend the Oakville Rangers AAA Tryout
    • if you are selected for the team you are not eligible for an F1 Waiver
    • if you are released from the Tryout proceed to step two
  2. Return to the Tryout Portal (the site where you registered for the Tryout) and log in to your account
  3. Select the menu option for Tryouts I Registered for
  4. Once you have been released from the team you will see a new option on your Tryout Application to request a Release
  5. Click that button and follow the instructions to complete your request
  6. You will be contacted via email to make an appointment to pick up the Waiver at the ORHC Office
  7. Both the player and a parent must be present to sign the waiver when you come to pick it up

LOR Release

  • You reside within the LOR
  • You are trying out for a U13 (formerly Peewee) or younger Team within the LOR

If you meet the criteria listed above you will require an LOR Release before you attend the Tryout. As per the OHF LOR Regulations, to be eligible for an LOR Release you first must try out for and be released from the Oakville Rangers team in the Division you are requesting the Release from. If you are offered a spot on the Oakville Rangers team in your requested Division you will not be eligible for an LOR Release in that Division.

If you are granted an LOR Release, that Release only applies to the Division you tried out for. For example, let's say you tried out for an Oakville Rangers AA team, you were released, and you were issued an LOR Release. The LOR Release you have been issued only allows you to Tryout for other AA teams within the LOR. If after that you then want to try out for a Single A team you would have to first try out for the Oakville Rangers Single A team then, if you aren't selected to the team, you could request an LOR Release for Single A.

To request an LOR Release:

  1. Register for and attend the Oakville Rangers Tryouts
    • if you are selected for the team you are not eligible for an LOR Release
    • if you are released from the Tryout proceed to step two
  2. Return to the Tryout Portal (the site where you registered for the Tryout) and log in to your account
  3. Select the menu option for Tryouts I Registered for
  4. Once you have been released from the team you will see a new option on your Tryout Application to request a Release
  5. Click that button and follow the instructions to complete your request
  6. You will be contacted via email to make an appointment to pick up the Waiver at the ORHC Office
  7. Both the player and a parent must be present to sign the waiver when you come to pick it up

Reminder!!
As an LOR Resident you are only eligible to try out for teams within the LOR
The only exception to this rule is at AAA with an F1 Waiver.

LOR Permission To Skate (PTS)

  • You reside within the LOR
  • You are trying out for a U14 (formerly Minor Bantam) or older Team within the LOR

If you meet the criteria listed above you will require an LOR Permission to Skate (also known as a PTS) before you attend the Tryout. Unlike an LOR Release, to be eligible for an LOR PTS you are not required to first try out for and be released from the Oakville Rangers team.

A PTS is not required if you are returning to the same Club you played for in the previous season. If you are trying out with a new Club you will request your PTS from the Club you played for last season. Each Center has their own policies and procedures for issuing PTS Forms - the instructions listed below only apply to the ORHC.

To request an LOR Permission to Skate (PTS) from the Oakville Rangers:

  1. Go to https://www.minorhockeyforms.com/Organizations/1/Oakville-Rangers-Hockey-Club
