Holiday Hangover?
That didn’t go the way it was supposed to go. It was made clear today that we have a lot of
work to do with positional play, angling, and offensive pressure. The things we have been working on since our
first practice. That being said, there
were some signs of good things happening as well. I saw players looking to get the puck to the
head man, and when that failed they got it in deep. I saw puck carriers going down the boards
with speed and making centering attempts. I saw defence pinching in at appropriate
times. These are all great things to
build on moving forward.
Our goal is to see improvement in some aspect of our play every week which doesn’t mean winning every week but simply seeing steady improvement. The boys are working hard but we want them to learn to work smarter as well. They will learn to recognize a situation and know what to do about it. They will learn when to stay back and observe and when to go all out. Today we seemed to gain ground in some areas and lose ground in others. Hopefully it’s a combination of the holiday and some players missing that caused this. Regardless, we have the talent to put this one behind us and move on to bigger and better things!
Today’s goals were scored by Mark on a great rush up the ice with a cut into the slot to put it away, and by Kyle who went to the net without the puck and received a great pass from AJ who was breaking down the half wall. The post took a beating from a shot by Evan today as well. Soooo close!!
